Business owners and city officials say Vice President JD Vance’s claim that Akron is lawless doesn’t match the city’s reality or crime data.

Just like most cities, Canton has had its fair share of violent crime. In some cases, the statistics are significantly higher than the state and national averages, according to the FBI. But for some who live in the area, Vice-President Vance’s comments were uncalled for. One Canton woman told me, “I am not scared down here at all.”
