Forecasters say the monster storm will turn away from the eastern U.S. and won’t make landfall. But they predict it will churn up dangerous rip currents.

The Atlantic basin includes the northern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of America, as the Gulf of Mexico is now known in the U.S. per an order from President Trump. NOAA and the National Hurricane Center are now using Gulf of America on its maps and in its advisories.

There's a one in five chance of a tropical storm reaching Tennessee in 2025, Colorado State University research shows. Here's the latest on Hurricane Erin and it's projected path.

"The core of Erin is expected to pass to the east of the southeastern and central Bahamas today and tonight," the National Hurricane Center said.

As of 7 a.m. CDT Monday, the center of Category 4 Hurricane Erin was located about 115 miles north-northeast of Grand Turk Island, or 890 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., and was tracking to the northwest at 13 mph.

A new weather map shows a monster storm forming near Florida in the coming days. The maps suggest that the massive storm is expected to hammer multiple regions.

Hurricane Erin was a Category 4 storm Monday morning and is expected to retain major hurricane status through the middle of the week.

Hurricane Erin weakened some overnight but was still a Category 3 storm on Tuesday that was expected to grow much larger as it approached the United States. Erin, the first hurricane of 2025 in the Atlantic, was not expected to make landfall in the U.S., however.
