James Gunn is feeling “incredibly grateful” for the initial box office success of Superman and the positive reception from audiences. The filmmaker and co-head of DC Studios took to Threads on Sunday to express his appreciation after the superhero blockbuster saw an estimated global debut of $217 million .

Gods and Monsters is officially in motion in theaters with the release of Superman, and the writer, director, and producer has scored big at the box office.

James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, released in theatres on July 11, 2025. It had a promising start in India on the first day of its release, and witnessed a sharp rise in its collections on day 2 and day 3. But on day 4, on its first Monday, the superhero film saw a huge dip in its earnings.

James Gunn's Superman has grossed over Rs 30 crore in India after five days, showing resilience after a Monday dip. Early estimates indicate a Tuesday earning of Rs 2.75 crore, a slight increase from Monday's Rs 2.

Discovery CEO David Zaslav. "The DC vision is clear, the momentum is real, and I couldn't be more excited for what's ahead."

David Corenswet's film has leapt past Henry Cavill's Man of Steel to become the best-opening solo Superman movie ever.

The reboot has outperformed current Bollywood releases and is already among the top-performing Hollywood films of 2025 in India.

Superman's return to theatres has been met with enthusiasm, especially in India, where it has quickly climbed the box office charts. The film, directed by James Gunn and featuring David Corenswet, has earned Rs 31.
