The Florida Department of Transportation said it had the crosswalk painted over because it was “street art” that no longer met state rules.
Volunteers used colorful chalk to restore a rainbow crosswalk in Orlando, Florida which honored the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting. The crosswalk had been painted over as part of the Trump administration's latest effort to remove politically-tinged street art.
While the letter from Duffy didn't specifically point to things like rainbow crosswalks, he did suggest that type of display may be unsafe.
