While Connor McDavid served the final game of his suspension, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 at Rogers Place on Saturday (Jan. 25).

The Oilers were lucky to escape the opening minutes with a scoreless tie. The Kings outshot Edmonton 10-2 through the first 10 minutes and could have been up 2-0 if not for a Skinner glove save for the ages on a two-on-one and then Ty Emberson pulling a puck off the goal line later in the period.

So close, yet so far. This was the story of the Edmonton Oilers in 2023-24 season as they lost in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final against the Florida Panthers and fell short.
