Google is scrapping some of its diversity hiring targets, joining a lengthening list of U.S. companies that have been abandoning or scaling back their diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

Alphabet's Google is scrapping its goal to hire more employees from historically underrepresented groups and is reviewing some of its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

The move comes slightly more than two weeks after Google CEO Sundar Pichai stood behind Trump during his inauguration.

Google has become the latest big US firm to scrap its goals to recruit more workers from underrepresented groups, BBC News understands. The decision to abandon the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) recruitment targets comes after the company carried out an annual review of its corporate policies.

The move came in the wake of an executive order aimed in part at pressuring government contractors to scrap their DEI initiatives.
