Industry sales tracker IWSR reported that sales of U.S. whiskey, including bourbon, Tennessee and rye, fell 1.2% in 2023, the first drop in more than 20 years. Sales have continued to fall, down 4% in the first nine months of 2024.
Brown-Forman layoffs impact hundreds of local workers
Now, the Brown-Forman Cooperage near Louisville's airport is closing. By the end of April, the 210 bourbon barrel makers who work here will be laid off. The company will shift to buying its barrels, but did not say from where. Another 438 workers across the global company will lose or have lost their jobs.
