Storm Éowyn has unleashed strong and damaging winds over the British Isles, and particularly over Ireland and Scotland.

Thousands of homes are still without power days after Storm Éowyn caused destruction across Scotland. Scottish Power Energy Networks, which supplies central and southern Scotland, said 3,000 properties were still waiting to be reconnected on Monday evening.

SP Energy Networks said its engineers had worked through the night to restore power to homes after winds of up to 100mph caused “extensive damage” to the electricity network.

The storm brought 100 mile-per-hour winds to the island and also battered Scotland and northern England. Britain’s weather office issued a red warning, its highest level of alert.
