The most intense heat of the summer arrives this week when parts of Los Angeles will be under extreme heat warnings and other areas will face severe fire conditions. What authorities described as a severe heat event with days of temperatures in the upper 90s and well into the 100s will begin Wednesday and continue through the weekend.
Los Angeles County is under a red flag warning which was released by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 3:34 p.m. The warning is in effect until Saturday Aug. 23, at 9 p.m.
During a red-flag warning, residents are urged to avoid risky behavior like campfires or other open flames, smoking or setting off fireworks. The NWS also urges residents to have an evacuation plan, ensure they have a go kit ready in case of an emergency and listen to their local officials for evacuation updates.
